Why we book live acts, not just DJs

Most underground nights are built around a booth. We build ours around a stage as often as a booth. It’s a small distinction on a flyer and an enormous one in the room.

When there’s a live act — a band, a producer with hardware, a vocalist working without a net — the night stops being something you watch and becomes something that can go wrong. That risk is the point. It’s the difference between a set and a performance.

The range is the statement

We don’t claim to be eclectic. We prove it by who’s on the bill: a techno selector, then a live four-piece, then someone making rap that doesn’t sound like anyone else. No genre owns the night.

It costs more, it’s harder to run, and it’s the entire reason EMARE exists. Live acts as well as DJs — that distinction is the product, and we’d rather lose money than lose it.
